Crown Candy Kitchen in St. Louis is a must-visit spot! Their BLT is enormous and absolutely delicious, loaded with crispy bacon. We also grabbed a tasty malt shake to go. The place has a charming old-school diner vibe, and the staff was super friendly. It’s been around since 1913, making it the city’s oldest soda fountain.

After seeing Mr. ChimeTime’s review, we decided to make the three hour drive from Owensboro, KY to St. Louis to eat at Crown Candy Kitchen. The atmosphere is fun and light with friendly employees. Our waitress Bree did an excellent job of helping us feel welcomed and informed as customers. The chocolate malt (thick) was absolutely the best I’ve ever had; no cap. The Reuben was excellent, although 16.25 seems steep. I found the famous “Mile-High BLT” tasty, but it’s just too much bacon. Sandwiches are about appropriate balance, so unless you live and breathe bacon, you’ll find it overwhelming and difficult to eat, although, the bacon itself is very flavorful. My girlfriend enjoyed her ham and cheese although it wasn’t anything elevated. All sandwiches are served with Ruffles-style chips. It was all very comforting. You also see a lot of locals, which is enjoyable. Their milkshakes and sundaes are where they really shine, so be sure to give them a try and enjoy a business with many years of rich history

The Crown is such a treasure! You will have a wait but it is so worth it for what you’ll taste inside. Neighborhood is just fine and people are nice. Wish I made it to St Louis more often!!!

Finally found time to stop in for lunch. Great Ruben sandwich. Quick service. Reasonable prices. Still empty booths at 12:30. Get out and get in to support this historic landmark. YUM!

My children loved this place! The BLT was amazing followed closely by the roast beef and cheddar. They each chose a different malt or shake and shared with each other. The atmosphere was interesting and energetic. The service was pleasant even though the place was packed with a line down the block at 3pm...even in the pouring rain. We had a short wait despite having a party of 6. My kids cannot wait to go back!

My friend moved here 30 years ago from Queens, NY when she was 17. She is SO ST. LOUIS! BUT, she has never been to crown candy. She will be moving to FL in a few days and I wanted to do something SO ST. LOUIS with her and this was the perfect place to spend such a beautiful day. The weather was a perfect 70 degrees, they had the door open fans on and the food was fabulous!

I love this little gem of through back nostalgia. Used to go to a place kinda like this in our small town when I was a kid with my grandmother. A hint, go with only one person and you’ll find a cute little table for two. When I say little, I mean little. Just like the bigger booths, they’re made for smaller people. People who are larger won’t find it easier or even be able to fit. Sorry, I’m not being rude, just trying to be helpful. So I had an appetizer of black walnut ice cream that was toooooo die for. Then the most humongous BLT sandwich, I’ve ever had. My wife had the Reuben and really enjoyed it, she went on and on about how good the bread was. We left with some old fashioned Scottish oatmeal cookies (If you like crunchy cookies, you’ll love them like I did.) and some dark chocolate candies. This is a must visit place and honestly, I want to go back for more black walnut ice cream.

I'd give more stars if I could!! One of our places to visit when in St. Louis! The heart-stopping BLT is delicious! But everything we've ever had has been so good. I can't say enough about the ice cream! Make it a Newport...you will not be disappointed. Definitely recommend Crown Candy!!
